PETER KASS, Owner
I began my boatbuilding training in 1978 at the Harvey Gamage Shipyard in South Bristol, Maine. I was fortunate enough to work with a small group of experienced old-timers, all over the age of sixty, who shared their knowledge of boat work with me. When the Harvey Gamage yard switched entirely to steel construction, I took a job at Goudy and Stevens in East Boothbay. At Goudy and Stevens my duties ranged from large scale repair jobs on daggers to working in the joiner shop. In 1982, I was hired on at Padebco Custom Boats in Round Pond to help build a 30' Atkin Cutter. Soon after, I stepped out on my own and opened John's Bay Boat Company in 1983. Boatbuilding fascinated me as a kid and my love of the work and my interest in the trade is still as strong as it was 30 years ago.
